Problem Solving Group - Tips to guide your team


So, you're a new manager and you've been put in charge of a planning team that has never worked together before. Your task is to find a solution to any business problem. You need a systematic process for conducting problem-solving. What you can do to get your team to move quickly and accurately to meet this challenge?

Do not worry. By relying on natural resources problem-solving logic, you will be able to exploit the natural capacity of reasoning of the members of your group to find an effective solution. Your job as a manager is to ensure that we have a fundamentally sound problem-solving process that incorporates the different types of thought which will be on your team.

The psychologist David Kolb has identified four main stages in the natural problem-solving. sure to deal with each of these in the group:

1.Situation analysis: focus on what is the most important problem?

2. Problem analysis: focus on what causes the problem?

3. Solution analysis: focus on what is the best solution?

4. implementation analysis: focus on how do we implement the solution?

In each of these four stages is recommended to use both divergent thinking and convergent thinking to make sure you have considered all the angles of the problem before moving to the next step.

Divergent thinking is used to stop your search for points of view and different ways of knowing. Can you think of this as part of this brainstorming phase where people are free to think in any way that feels natural and comfortable.

The convergent thinking, on the other hand, is used to bring the group of new towards the center where it can discuss and debate and unless a solution of the group in order to pass to the next step.

Your job as editor of this planning group is to coordinate these two different styles of thinking in each of these four phases and ensure that everyone's concerns are heard and resolved before the next step.

Keeping good notes and keep track of where you are in the process you are sure that you can harness the power of human reason and natural process of effective team to address the challenges of your business planning.
